  • Our Day Remains – Lights Go Out – new single released last Friday, Bolton based band….
  • Positronik – When the Bitch Knows Your Dub – Captain Black delivers a great reworking of the new single in a rub-a-dub stylee…….tune-age as the bass player is known to say
  • AAAK – Get in the real world – EP out in December on Electric Tremor – exclusive track from the latest recording sessions – which features “special guests” ….. looking forward to finding out who they might be……
  • Stop the Blackout – Headlights – debut single out in November….from Manchester
  • The Rainband featuring Rowetta – The Prodigal – new single out in November…..been around for a couple of years and have a lot of good words being said about them…..
  • The God Damn Electric – Something More – catch them live at Dry Bar on December 5th……
  • White Noise Box – Black Cider – another track showing the versatility of this band…..
  • Shoshin – Ridiculous – another great track from the “City of Patience” album – one of my albums of the year
  • Ash Mountain – Tequila – from the new album Flux and Limbo – Fall nerds will note that Mr Dave Milner appears on this album, and the main songwriter in the band is Tim Scott who used to be in Trigger Happy.
  • The Fall – Fantastic Life – one the great Fall singles , took this one from the Hip Priest and Kamerads compilation

Salford Music Scene – 19th April 2011

Starting to promo some of the bands on this years Sounds from The Other City festival and a healthy slug of music from Open Party plus other new stuff from around the scene and to close a classic from the only band in the world……

  1.  Ink – Kill the Flame – Demo – local band made up of students from Swinton High School.
  2. Open Party– The Standing – Demo – Open party started of as a home studio project between singer Richard Brady and producer Tony Kavanangh, after a year of writing and recorded they formed the band which, in full is, Richard Brady-Vocals , Tony Kavanagh-Guitar, Adam Birch-Bass, Roxx Enroll-Guitar, Daryl Rogowich-Drums. They are now playing gigs in Manchester/Salford and hoping to get on a few local festivals this summer. Influences are too many to mention (they say), but take in anything from the Associates to N.I.N. via the Bunnymen.
  3. Viv Albertine – I don’t believe in love – Flesh – Former Slit Viv plays this years Sounds from the Other City Festival.
  4. The Louche FC – Only In A Dream – Single – Bright new things of the Salford Scene, beloved of one Mark Edward of Prestwich with their new single – they also play SFTOC.
  5. Richard Youngs – A storm of light ignites my heart – Beyond the Valley of the Ultrahits – another coup from the SFTOC chaps in booking the great Richard Youngs master of psyche folk guitar wizardry.
  6. Open Party – Emotional Burns – Demo
  7. Lisbon – Empires – Vulnerable Mind – “a 5-piece pop band hailing from Manchester, England. With a penchant for dramatic pop music, the band began with one clear objective – creating high-quality, modern songs with universal appeal. After a prolific song-writing period, Lisbon are intent on imprinting their sound upon the public consciousness by embarking on a series of live performances in their home town.” Indeed…. they are – Robert S Pollard (vocals), David Hatch (guitar) Jordan Marsland (guitar/vocals), William Ellis (bass), Justin Ruscoe (drums).
  8.  Ghost Outfit – Boy – Sways Mix-tape – watch out for this lot we predict great things!
  9. Mandrake – Still Waters –  Glory Days – as heavily promoed on this show check out the album and watch out for their gigs.

Aural Delights – 23rd February 2011

On this show we are celebrating the single launches for Salford’s very own record lable SWAYS – (and there is a great downloadable mix-tape on the site which is well worth a listen) – with tunes from Emperor Zero, Irk the River and The Louche FC. In between a couple of tunes from Dave Stephens brand new album “Time Will Tell”, and new music from Ryko Saints, Bare in the Woods, Shy and the Fight, and The Portlands, plus album tracks from Braids, Ducktails, and Ektoise.

And as a tearful fairwell to KIN who is off to the Netherlands a simply perfect track from the marvellous Dot Dot Dot EP.
